作品について / About This Work
この作品は、2025年に雲仙市立小浜中学校吹奏楽部の委嘱により作曲した混合8重奏作品です。
雲仙市小浜町には、山領と雲仙の二か所に「鬼石」と呼ばれる巨石があります。伝承では、男鬼「空仙鬼」と女鬼「難林王」が石になったとされ、それぞれの鬼石として今も語り継がれています。この二つの鬼石が、《デュアル・ストーン ～鬼の宿る石～》の着想のもととなっています。
フルート、クラリネット、アルトサクソフォンの木管楽器と、トランペット、ホルン、トロンボーン、ユーフォニアム、テューバの金管楽器による8重奏で、それぞれの楽器の音色や性格を生かしながら、8人全員が音楽の中で重要な役割を担うように書かれています。
限られた人数の中でも、音色の組み合わせや楽器同士の対話、響きの変化によって、力強さと神秘性を併せ持つ音楽を目指しました。
Dual Stone was composed in 2025 on commission from the Obama Junior High School Wind Band in Unzen City, Nagasaki, Japan.
In Obama, Unzen, there are two giant rocks known as Oni-ishi, or “Demon Stones,” located in Sanryo and Unzen. According to local legend, they are said to be the transformed forms of the male demon Kusenki and the female demon Nanrin-oh. These two stones became the inspiration for Dual Stone.
The work is scored for a mixed octet consisting of flute, clarinet, alto saxophone, trumpet, horn, trombone, euphonium, and tuba. Each of the eight instruments is given an important musical role, with contrasts and dialogue between the woodwind and brass instruments forming an essential part of the music.
Through changing combinations of tone color, musical dialogue, and ensemble sonorities, the piece seeks to express both the powerful and mysterious character of its subject with only eight players.
