About This Work

Scherzando was composed in 2016 and was awarded the 27th Asahi Composition Award. The following year, it was selected as Set Piece I for the 2017 All Japan Band Competition.
The title “Scherzando” is an Italian musical term meaning “playfully” or “jokingly.” Built around lively rhythms and agile musical gestures, the piece unfolds through a succession of contrasting moods and characters, creating a varied and energetic work within its relatively short duration.
The piece is also featured as a competition set piece in the anime series Sound! Euphonium 3 and the theatrical film Sound! Euphonium: The Final Chapter.
